Welcome to AZ Reads – K-12 Literacy Initiative, a program by Haven Family Resource Center. In our continuous efforts to promote literacy and enrich the lives of individuals in our community, we have developed this comprehensive literacy program targeting students from kindergarten to grade 12.
Our Mission
At Haven Family Resource Center, our mission is to foster a love for reading and provide students with the necessary skills to become confident and proficient readers. We believe that literacy is the foundation for academic success and lifelong learning. Program Scope
Our AZ Reads – K-12 Literacy Initiative offers a range of programs and activities designed to meet the diverse needs of students:
Early Literacy Programs
Children in their early years, from kindergarten to grade 3, participate in specialized programs that focus on building foundational reading skills. These programs incorporate storytelling, phonics exercises, and guided reading sessions to develop phonemic awareness, letter recognition, and reading comprehension.
Middle Grade Literacy Programs
Students in grades 4 to 8 delve deeper into literacy activities that aim to strengthen reading fluency, expand vocabulary, and improve critical thinking skills. Our instructors use a variety of texts, including novels, non-fiction books, and newspapers, to enhance students' reading abilities.
High School Literacy Programs
For high school students, we provide advanced literacy instruction focusing on close reading, textual analysis, and advanced comprehension strategies. Our program prepares students for the demands of college and career-readiness by fostering critical thinking, research skills, and effective written communication.
Summer Reading Programs
During the summer months, we offer engaging reading programs to prevent the summer slide and help students maintain their reading skills. These programs incorporate fun-filled activities, book clubs, and reading challenges to keep students motivated and excited about reading throughout their break.
