Empowering Indigenous Youth in Environmental Education

Welcome to Haven Family Resource Center, where we are dedicated to supporting and empowering the Indigenous youth community. We are excited to introduce the EcoTruths for Indigenous Youth – Spring 2023 program, an immersive and educational experience designed to foster environmental awareness among our young Indigenous leaders.

The Importance of Environmental Education

Environmental education plays a vital role in shaping the future of our planet. By equipping our Indigenous youth with knowledge and understanding of environmental issues, we empower them to become active participants in sustainable practices, conservation efforts, and environmental decision-making processes. Through the EcoTruths program, we aim to nurture a sense of environmental stewardship and instill a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Program Highlights

1. Hands-on Workshops and Seminars

Our EcoTruths program offers a diverse range of hands-on workshops and seminars led by experts in the field of environmental science, sustainability, and Indigenous culture. Participants will engage in interactive learning experiences, including:

  • Exploring Indigenous Perspectives: Discover the wisdom and teachings of Indigenous cultures regarding nature and the environment.
  • Traditional Ecological Knowledge: Learn from Indigenous elders and knowledge keepers about sustainable practices and traditional ecological knowledge.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Understand the importance of protecting and preserving the natural environment for future generations.
  • Sustainable Living: Gain practical skills and knowledge to lead a sustainable and environmentally-conscious lifestyle.

2. Community Field Trips

As part of the program, participants will embark on exciting field trips to local environmental landmarks, conservation areas, and Indigenous cultural sites. These experiences provide a unique opportunity to connect with nature, deepen understanding, and build lasting connections within the community.

3. Indigenous Youth Mentorship

Mentorship is a cornerstone of our EcoTruths program. Indigenous youth will have the chance to work closely with experienced mentors who will provide guidance, support, and encourage personal growth throughout the program. Our mentors are passionate about empowering the next generation of Indigenous leaders in their environmental journey.
